La ville de Kongoussi est située au centre du Burkina, à 110km de la capitale Ouagadoudou, dans la province du Bam, dans le département de Kongoussi. Au dernier recensement administratif de Mars 1998, sa population était de 18.157 habitants. La population est en grande majorité constituée d'agriculteurs et d'éleveurs.La situation sanitaire de la population dans la commune demeure
encore précaire surtout sur le plan de l'hygiène et de l'assainissement. Outre les soins curatifs, les services de santé mènent des actions de prévention à travers le Programme Elargie de Vaccination (PEV) en faveur des mères et enfants et la sensibilisation en matière d'hygiène et assainissement. Le taux de mortalité général est de 17,5%. Les maladies les plus mortelles chez les enfants sont : le paludisme, les maladies diarrhéiques, la rougeole. L'expérience de vie est de 48,5%.Kongoussi est siège de la Direction Provinciale de l'Enseignement de Base et de l'Alphabétisation (DPEBA). Dans la commune, on dénombre 8 écoles primaires. Elle abrite le Lycée Provincial de l'Enseignement Secondaire. Une bibliothèque communale a été réalisée.
A Kongoussi, nous serons hébergées chez Aboubakar Dabal, un éducateur de l’action sociale de Kongoussi. Nous vivrons au sein de sa famille et nous mènerons des actions en lien avec l’action sociale de Kongoussi. Ainsi, nous nous occuperons des enfants des rues en allant à leur rencontre et en essayant de mettre des dispositifs en place pour que ces derniers accèdent à l’école ; nous mènerons des actions de prévention contre la malnutrition infantile par le biais des « maqquis-bébés » ; nous mènerons des actions de préventions contre le VIH auprès des prostituées mineures ; nous animerons la vie quotidienne des orphelins par le biais de diverses activités.
